So after church, my birthday “began”.  It was a beautiful day, so I ate my lunch outside on the deck, took a walk with the kids and enjoyed a delicious steak dinner prepared by Jared!  YUM!!!

Before dinner I was in my room and the kids made me stay in there while they got a “surprise” ready for me.  When they finally led me out, there was something covered with a bunch of blankets.  Upon “unwrapping” I found a piñata!  Awesome!  We love piñatas, but it’s been a few years since we’ve had one.  And it was HEAVY – in other words, there was LOTS of candy in there :)

Jared lowered it over the deck and the kids and I all had a blast trying to break that thing open.

Of course I went first, since I was the birthday girl :)  Getting ready…

Then out of no where I was attacked!  By the way, that stuff smells TERRIBLE!

Also, I’m not sure who got it worse – me or the grass :)

After I was mostly cleaned off Jared started fixing dinner and after we opened presents.  Of course I had  lots of helpers (which in this case was good since I had my arms full with baby Indie!)

Then it was finally time for cake and ice cream.  Jared got this brilliant(?) idea to put sparklers on the cake. 

I’m pretty sure they make special sparklers that are made for this kind of thing.  And the ones you get at the firework stand at wal-mart are NOT it.  They took a long time to light, they “sparked” all over (notice the look of concern on Mia’s face in the next picture, and how far back she is standing!), and they left a dusting of ash on the frosting.  Mmm…

I’m thinking that is not quite the effect he was going for, but fun none-the-less.  And who minds a little ash with their cake, right?!

So there you have it…even though it was a Sunday AND also Easter, my birthday turned out fabulous!
