Portugal Day 6

Day 6 - Madeira Island
Another early morning!!! We were up at 4:30 and headed from Lisbon to Madeira Island, which is actually closer to Africa, but owned by Portugal. We spent the rest of our vacation there and it was BEAUTIFUL!!!

This is the lawn area/view at our hotel

the pool/outdoor restaurant

When we arrived in Madeira we couldn't check into our hotel yet, so we did a few fun things on the island:

stopped by this market - so pretty

Then we went on a tram ride up the mountain. It was a little overcast, but the views were incredible. Once we arrived on top, we hiked up a little further and enjoyed a great lunch with the most wonderful home made ice cream! YUM!

After lunch, to get back down the mountain, we took a toboggan ride. I just about died when I was told they were wicker toboggans and we'd be going down streets that cars actually drive on! What? No worries, we only saw one close call :)

And I'm supposed to trust this group to get us down safely?!

Two men, aka drivers, pushed and pulled us down and used their boots as brakes.

We made it, and it was a LOT of fun!

Dinner that night was YUMMY! And there was a LOT of food! The meat was brought out on a skewer and then hung at your table and you pulled off a piece at a time. Then they brought you more...and more...and more!
Most the tables were on a patio and it was such a nice night.

Yeah, I could get used to this view!
